Twenty-two more golfers have played their way into the 116th N.H. State Amateur golf championship.

Playing at Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth Thursday, Jack Pepin earned medalist honors with a 5-under 66 to lead the second of six scheduled qualifiers.

From Plaistow and playing out of Atkinson Resort & CC, Pepin is just 15. His bogey-free round was kick-started by a birdie-birdie-birdie start.

The only other golfer to card an under-par round was Nick Hampoian of The Golf Club of New England. He shot a 3-under 68 and had just one bogey. Hampoian recently completed his freshman year at UConn, where he played on the golf team.

Thursday’s cut was 79. A former Keene golfer, Clayton Wentworth of Dracut, Mass., who plays out of Candia Woods Golf Links, shot 83 and did not get through.

The first 17 qualifiers were decided Tuesday in a qualifier at The Oaks in Somersworth.

The fourth qualifier is June 12 at Bretwood in Keene, on the South Course. Before then, another group of players will vie for a spot in the weeklong amateur in a qualifier June 5 at Stonebridge in Goffstown.

The State-Am will be played July 8-13 at Portsmouth Country Club.
