The Franklin Pierce baseball team flipped the script on Le Moyne at the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Friday at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, N.Y.
After losing to the Dolphins (24-25) in their tourney-opening game Thursday, 16-2, the Ravens (26-22) turned things around Friday with a dominant win of their own, 12-1, to advance to conference finals.
Franklin Pierce now faces Merrimack, which has gone undefeated so far in the tournament and beat Le Moyne earlier Friday, 5-2, to advance to the championship. The Ravens will have to win twice to claim the NE10 title, while the Warriors will only need one win to knock Franklin Pierce out of the double-elimination tourney.
First pitch is set for noon on Saturday.
The Ravens came out swinging in Friday’s game, rallying for five runs in the first inning. They added two in the fifth, and another five in the sixth.
On the other side, Derek Duffy pitched a complete-game gem, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out eight, and giving up only one earned run, in the ninth.
Carmine Giordano led the offensive explosion, going 3-for-4 with a double and a triple while driving in six of his team’s 12 runs. Jethro Hurt went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Jonel Ozuna was 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs and two RBI and Dylan Jones finished 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.
Brad Roberto was 1-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, and Ural Forbes went 2-for-4 with two runs.
