At Dover, the ConVal baseball team, the No. 5 seed, fell behind early and couldn’t catch up against No. 4 St. Thomas Aquinas in the Division II quarterfinals Saturday, losing 6-3.
The Saints scored two in the first inning, and by the fourth they had a 5-0 lead. The Cougars put up three in the fifth — loading the bases and scoring one each on a passed ball, a walk and a single — and had a chance to tie the game with runners on second and third, but came up short.
“It wasn’t one of our better games of the year,” ConVal Coach Mike Marschok said.
Overall, the year was a nice step up for a Cougars team that missed the playoffs each of the past two seasons.
“Personally, I think we had a real good season,” Marschok said. “We were in every game. Kids played hard this year, they had a great bounce-back year.”
