Jake Velazquez’s victory in the 3,200 and a third-place finish by the 4 X 400 relay team propelled the Keene High boys’ team to its fourth straight victory at the CVC Track & Field Championships, on a beautiful weather day in Langdon Saturday.

Dave Goldsmith’s team shaded runner-up Hanover by five points.

On the girls’ side, Hanover’s girls beat Bellows Falls by 10.5 points, while Keene finished third.

The boys’ outcome was clouded by some late confusion, when a scorekeeper inputting results into an electronic system mistakenly mishit a check box that effectively disqualified Velazquez, Goldsmith said.

The error nearly went unnoticed. The win, one of three for Keene on the day, was worth 10 points, but it didn’t show that way for a long time.

“A great effort by everyone on a good (finally) day to run a track meet,” Goldsmith said.

The Birds other victories were scored by the 4 X 800 relay team of Velazquez, Nico Ramirez, Sergio Sartini and Silas Johnson, in 8 minutes, 43.14 seconds; and Aidan Kindopp in the 800 (1:59.66).

Velazquez, the standout cross country runner for the Birds, ran 9:44.42 in the 3,200.

Velazquez (4:43.6), Aidan Kindopp (4:44.26) and Torin Kindopp (4:44.5) placed third, fourth and fifth respectively in the 1,600, meanwhile. Also, Torin Kindopp was third in the 800 (2:03.85) and Sartini was fourth (2:03.91) — all of those times personal records.

Evan Holland place sixth in the 110 Hurdles and fifth in the 300 hurdles (43.88, a PR). Alex Opsahl was third in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches) and had a PR distance in the triple jump (39-08), good for third again.

In the shot put, Keene’s Boston Parisi had a 2-foot improvement on his personal-best effort to take fifth with a throw of 37-09 ¼, and the Birds’ 4 X 400 relay (Sartini, Aidan Kindopp, Torin Kindopp and Holland) finished third.

And finally, the team’s 4 X 100 relay (Will Bendel, Jake Dennis, Will O’Connor and Vincent Swingle) logged the day’s sixth-fastest time, 49.41.

Hanover High’s Kyle Doucette swept the 100-, 200- and 400-meter races.

Among other top area finishers, Fall Mountain’s George Gowdy was third inthe 3,200 (10:13.17); Monadnock’s Harry Ryan was third in the 400 (53.29); Fall Mountain’s Wyatt Lord was fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.77) and fifth in the long jump (18-1); Hinsdale’s Calvin Atkins was fourth in discus (98-2) and Bellows Falls’ Reno Tuttle had winning marks in the discus (138-11) and the shot put (46-4.25).

Highlighting the Keene girls’ big day was a pair of relay victories. The Birds’ 4 x 100 team (Marie Prock, Claire O’Connor, Ava Dellogono and Justine Coulborn) nipped Brattleboro with a time of 53.50 seconds, while the 4 x 800 squad (Isabelle Fleuette, Mia Brown, Amelia Opsahl and Hannah Shepard) prevailed in 10:41.27, good for an 8-second margin of victory over the Hanover entry.

Keene’s third relay entry, the 4 x 400 (Shepard, Ali Hebert, Fleuette and Mikayla Randall) placed third.

Randall, the team’s standout senior, was runner-up in the 800 (2:26.96) and the 1,600 (5:128.95). Kearsarge’s Mya Dubie won each of those events.

Fall Mountain senior Zoe Utton took second in the 400 (1:02.45), and event Hebert was fifth in. Utton was fifth in the 800 (2:31.95) and sixth in the high jump (4-5), too.

Among other top area finishers, Keene’s Emily Boswell was second in the shot put (29-9) and third in the discus (91-7); Keene’s Amelia Opsahl ran third in the 3,200 (11:49.97), Monadnock’s Sydney Eccleston was third in the high jump (4-9); Fall Mountain’s Kyla Eigabroadt and Monadnock’s Sadie Lorenz were third and fifth, respectively, in the 300 hurdles with times of 50:96 and 51:52; and Keene’s Avery Dellogono was fourth in the long jump (15-2.75).

Brattleboro’s Maggie Lonardo had a big day, winning three individual events: the long jump (16-1), the 100 meters (12.67) and the 200 (26.91). The Colonels finished sixth as a team. Also, the Bellows Falls girls, led by Jaden Luebbert’s schol record pole vault effort (9-3), finished second to Hanover.
