Two players share the first-round lead at the New England Open at Quechee Club in Quechee, Vt. Jack Lang of Lexington, Mass., and Mark Purrington of Dartmouth, Mass., shot 5-under par 66s Tuesday and lead two other players by one shot.

In all, 18 players bettered par. Among them are three New Hampshire standouts: Matt Paradis of Hooksett (2 under) and Michael Martel of New Ipswich (1 under) and Pat Pelletier of Lebanon (I under). Paradis and Martel are recent N.H. amateur titlists.

Tied for second are Brandon Lacasse and Nicholas Pandelena, who plays out of Atkinson in N.H. Another shot back, at 3 under, are Ryan McCormick and Jason Thresher.

The field includes professional and amateur players.

The 36-hole stroke-play tournament is being held at Quechee Club for the 23rd time.
