MoCo Arts’ award-winning, multi-arts summer day camps provide children and teens with the skills they need to build confidence while making friends and exploring their creativity. For over 20 years, MoCo has taken summer fun to the next level with its popular Creative Arts at Keene (a.k.a. CAKE and CupCAKE) camps. Both are open for 2022 registration.

Children ages 4 through Grade 2 are invited to join MoCo Arts for CupCAKE, a fun introduction to performing and creative arts, that challenges campers to use their imagination and think in new ways. CupCAKE camp runs for four weeks: the last week of June and the first three weeks of August. Parents can sign kids up for one, two, three or all four weeks of camp. Each week focuses on a theme that includes singing, dancing, and creative arts projects, culminating in a musical theatre performance at the end of the week. MoCo provides props and costumes that stimulate young campers’ minds and builds in playtime where children can socialize and have fun being kids. CupCAKE campers develop important life skills like teamwork, listening, self-awareness, patience, confidence and how to support others in a group setting.

MoCo Arts Board Member, Gordon Kendall shared, “MoCo Arts has had a huge positive impact on my family in ways we could not have foreseen. When I first signed my daughter up for a week at CupCAKE, I saw firsthand how MoCo creates positivity in children’s lives. Her confidence has grown, as well as her sense of belonging in her community.”

For students in Grades 3 through 12, MoCo offers CAKE camp. Students can register for one, two, three or all four weeks of CAKE camp during the month of July (students must participate in Week 1, 2 or 3 to enroll in Week 4). CAKE provides kids and teens with a unique opportunity to delve into the arts in highly personalized ways. Campers choose either a performing or visual arts track, and then select from a wide range of classes within that focus, creating their own unique full or half day morning or afternoon schedule. From creative writing and film to chainmail jewelry design and cooking classes to creative tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons, MoCo Arts goes beyond the average camp experience, creating opportunities for students to build skills and friendships they will take with them throughout their lives. In addition to self-directed schedules tailored to campers’ interests, CAKE students get to showcase projects they have been working on in MoCo’s black box theatre. Whether it be a new dance, a podcast they produced, a song they recently learned, a painting they would love to show or a piece of writing they want to read, students demonstrate whatever they choose during noontime shows on Wednesdays and Fridays. Important lessons outside of class include working through mistakes, and how to encourage and support peers whether their performance was perfect or had some challenges. Students who prefer not to perform can participate behind the scenes, helping with costumes and technical aspects for the show. The fourth week of CAKE is Festival, an exciting time for campers filled with musicals, art exhibits, one-act plays, dance performances and more. CAKE’s unique atmosphere of creativity and collaboration creates a positive environment for students where they can grow, establish lifelong friendships and transition through changes and into new grades or schools with confidence. Named an outstanding summer arts program by the National Endowment for The Arts, CAKE draws students from the Monadnock Region and beyond — families are planning vacations that include CAKE (and CupCAKE!) as part of their special experience visiting the area.

MoCo Arts welcomes students of all abilities from all social and economic backgrounds. As part of MoCo’s mission to keep the arts accessible to all, tuition assistance is available for both CAKE and CupCake camp. CAKE tuition is $225 per week, with half day discounts available. MoCo is offering a CAKE early bird registration special until May 1: all four weeks of camp for $800. CupCAKE is $220 per week, with early drop off and aftercare available Monday through Thursday until 5 p.m. for an additional $12 per day. Families who sign up multiple children will receive 10% off the cost of camp.
