If Granny D Haddock were with us today, she would be demonstrating strong support for the For the People Act.
At age 89, Granny D walked across the country in support of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill, which passed soon after. In 2003, she drove 22,000 miles around the U.S., registering new voters.
Let us be inspired by Granny D’s actions for democracy to support the For the People Act currently in the Senate. This bill, S1, would protect and expand voting rights, stop partisan gerrymandering, create an ethical and accountable government and reduce the influence of big money in politics.
Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan are both co-sponsors of the For the People Act, but neither has yet committed to reforming or eliminating the filibuster if that is what is required to get the bill passed now. I strongly urge Sens. Shaheen and Hassan to commit to doing everything in their power to see that S1 gets passed now. Our democracy depends on it.
