Scott M. Wheeler
Sadly, we announce Scott M. Wheeler, 55, of Keene passed away peacefully after his courageous two-year battle with cancer on May 5, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Jan. 23, 1964, in Milford, Conn., to the late Leslie and Dolores (Pettengill) Wheeler.
He spent his early childhood in Woodmont with his brothers by his side as they began their journey of making those memories he held so dear of participating in sports and many adventures they experienced together as the “Wheeler Boys.” Then those adventures continued in Newfane, Vt., where his family moved to enjoy the woods and rivers.
He went on to participate in his love of sports through the years up to and after his 1982 graduation from Leland and Gray High School. He went on to attend Castleton State College. After college he joined the U.S. Navy to proudly serve aboard the USS Raleigh stationed in Norfolk, Va. His wonderful, honest, witty personality and ability to connect with people led him to find his calling in his career in sales. He spent 10 years living in California perfecting his love of sales and people. He then moved back to New England to be closer to family and friends and continued his sales career at Brattleboro Subaru; everyone there quickly became his second family.
We would like to thank everyone at Brattleboro Subaru for all their love and support that was given through his battle. We would also like to thank the palliative care team through Dartmouth-Hitchcock for their support and compassion for Scott through his long battle. He was so appreciative and grew to love them all. Scott’s incredible ability to put a whole new meaning to honesty and tell it as it is, his amazing memory for the smallest of details, his wonderful sense of humor, his love of sports, animals, a good game of pool, golf, thunderstorms, Parcheesi, magna Libris, classic horror movies and science fiction to name a few, but just the simple things in life and so much more will live on in all that were honored to know and love him.
He was so proud to have passed down those qualities to his daughter Samantha, the light and love of his life. He would speak often of how they could spend hours together watching those classic horror movies together, his favorite thing to do.
He is survived by his daughter Samantha Wheeler of Arizona; his brothers, Leslie Wheeler and his wife, Penny, of Florida, Mark Wheeler and his wife, Lynne, of Massachusetts, Todd Wheeler and his wife, Martha, of New Hampshire; his sister Susan Ledger of Connecticut; his cat and companion Spock; and many nieces and nephew, aunts and uncles, cousins and many close friends; and especially to John Kempf for being such a wonderful friend and all his support to Scott. He was predeceased by his sister Cindy Rockett.
A graveside service will be held to honor his life on May 30, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, N.H.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Scott’s memory to The Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care, 154 Hitchcock Loop Road, Lebanon, N.H.
