Robert A. Goundry
Robert Arnold Goundry, 89, a longtime resident of Rindge, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at his son’s home in Sammamish, Wash., after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Robert was born April 29, 1929, in Spencer, N.Y., and grew up in upstate New York. He graduated from Kenmore High School and attended Cornell University earning a master’s degree in engineering physics. His engineering career included jobs with GE, RCA, MIT’s Lincoln Laboratories and MITRE. He was drafted after graduating college and served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He met his wife of 41 years Mary Margaret (McCall) Goundry while attending Cornell University. They were married in 1951 but tragically, Mary preceded him in death in 1992 shortly after their retirement to Rindge in 1990.
Robert enjoyed puttering around his place in Rindge, working with his tractors, and maintaining his property. An avid conservationist, he loved being outdoors, particularly on his own little slice of the New Hampshire countryside in Rindge that he had owned since 1962. Robert was an active member of his church in Keene and enjoyed many friendships there, as well as in Rindge and surrounding areas.
Robert is survived by his son, George; daughter-in-law, Jongsun; grandson, Daniel; granddaughter, Elizabeth; his sister-in-law, Betty; nephew, Phillip; niece, Gail; and cousins, Christine and Cheryl. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Charles; his wife, Mary; his brother, Paul; and nephew, Paul Jr. He will be fondly remembered as a warm, loving, family member and a friend to many.
A small memorial service for family will be held in Seattle and Robert’s ashes will be scattered at Mount Monadnock, joining those of his wife Mary.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations in Robert’s memory be made to the Christian Science Society, 74 Washington St., Keene, NH 03431.
