James E. Fitz-Simon Jr.
James Edward “Jim” Fitz-Simon Jr., 61, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at his home in Cocoa, Fla.
Jim was born in Vicenza, Italy, on Dec. 31, 1957. Jim was the son of Arlene G. (Ortega) Fitz-Simon and the late James E. Fitz-Simon Sr.
He was a 1975 graduate of Keene High School and served four years in the U.S. Army. Jim later went on to earn his degree from the University of Central Florida and began his 27-year career with Brevard County Fire Rescue, retiring as lieutenant in 2006.
Jim’s life was centered on God, family and service. Learning was his passion. He enjoyed sports, hiking, sailboarding, bowling, martial arts, guitar, Indian flute, and helping others. He especially loved playing with his grandson, Nathan. Jim had a kind, gentle and loving heart that has touched many lives. His love for his family had no bounds! He lived life with excitement and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl L. (Stanley) Fitz-Simon; daughter, Megan N. Fitz-Simon; son, David J. Fitz-Simon; grandson, Nathan W. Coffey; son-in-law, Michael T. Coffey Jr.; mother, Arlene G. (Ortega) Fitz-Simon of Keene; sister, Judi Sievers-Mills of Jackson, Tenn.; brother, Eddie J. Fitz-Simon Sr. and his wife, Heather, of Keene; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his father, James E. Fitz-Simon Sr.; and his sister, Julie A. Willette.
The memorial visitation will be on Saturday, June 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South U.S. Highway 1, Rockledge, Fla. 32955.
