Betty Ann Knight

Betty Ann Knight of Swanzey passed away surrounded by loved ones on June 4, 2019.

She was born in Marlborough Aug. 15, 1928, the daughter of Arthur Hurst and Mary Hackler. She moved to Keene at the age of 10. She attended Keene schools, graduating in the class of 1946, and worked in the office at Pittsburg Plate Glass Co. for several years.

Betty married Robert H. Knight on March 20, 1948 and raised their family of three children on the local dairy farm and was president of the State Farm Bureau Young Peoples Association until employed by the City of Keene. She was assistant to the city clerk from 1959 to 1966 and assumed the position of city clerk in the years 1966 to 1973.

She was a lifetime member of the Cheshire County Farm Bureau Association and the First Baptist Church of Keene, where her beautiful soprano voice was heard for many years.

A brother, Ernest Hurst of Greensboro, Vt., died earlier.

Betty is survived by her husband, Robert of Swanzey; sons, James and his wife, Anne, of Keene and John and his wife, Jane, of Coventry, R.I.; and daughter, Jane Bridges and her husband, John, of Swanzey; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Keene.
