Vandalism

Police are trying to find who vandalized locations around town with graffiti.

WINCHESTER — Police are working to identify those responsible for graffiti that has appeared in several locations in town over the past couple weeks.

Winchester Police Chief Mike Tollett said the locations include dugouts at the Ellen Lambert Murphy Memorial Community Center on Durkee Street and an abandoned car repair shop on Snow Road.

The graffiti has included the phrase “GS 603,” “which we’re still researching,” Tollett said. He added that police believe juveniles are behind the vandalism, which has cost several hundred dollars due to repainting.

The Winchester Police Department alerted the public to the graffiti in a Facebook post Saturday. No new vandalism has been discovered since, Tollett said.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to contact the police department at 239-4814 or the Cheshire County dispatch center at 355-2000.
