Adventurers attending Friday’s Choice Awards will be treated to a pirate’s life, as The Sentinel transform’s Keene Ice into a buccaneer’s den.

Each year, readers of The Sentinel select what they like best about the Monadnock Region in more than 200 categories. This year’s celebration of those businesses, personalities and services will feature food from JimEddie’s Restaurant and Catering and music by DJ Kris Kleine and the Mango Grove Steel Band.

The event, with presenting sponsors Ted’s Shoe & Sport and Beeze Tees, will include goodie bags; a new bar service, Martini’s Etc.; 13 live pirates and mermaids, including the fictional character Jack Sparrow; two-for-one admission tickets; and door prizes.

Some of the proceeds will go to the Monadnock United Way.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the event going until 9. Come in pirate or Caribbean attire, or wear patches.

Other sponsors of the sixth annual Choice Awards are Better Homes and Gardens/The Masiello Group, the premier sponsor; Savings Bank of Walpole, Tom Call Excavation and Hamblett Electric, entertainment sponsors; Mint Premium Car Wash, Clark-Mortenson Financial Services, Heaven Hair Gallery, Fenton Family Dealerships and Athens Pizza, awards sponsors; and Keene Ice, JimEddies, UpStream Sound, and Neen’s Costume Emporium and Party Supplies.
