DUMMERSTON, Vt. — Vermont State Police arrested a Hinsdale man who they said was driving a motorcycle at a speed nearly 40 miles over the limit on Route 91 Monday evening.

Dakota J. McCarthy, 24, was traveling south on the highway at around 6:16 p.m., State Police said in a news release Tuesday. A trooper with a speed-measuring device clocked McCarthy's speed at more than 100 miles per hour in a 65 mile-an-hour zone, according to the release.

The trooper arrested McCarthy on the charge of excessive speed, the release said, and took him to the Brattleboro Police Department for processing. McCarthy was released on a citation and is scheduled to appear in the Windham County Superior Court in Brattleboro on July 2, according to the release.
