Keene police took a local man into protective custody after they say he was found running naked in the Roxbury Street area Monday morning.

A 29-year-old man was impaired when police took him to the emergency room of Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene following the incident, Keene police Lt. Steven M. Stewart said today.

The Sentinel is not identifying the man because he has not been charged with a crime.

Police officers were called to the area of Douglass and Roxbury streets Monday at about 7:45 a.m. for the report of a man running naked in the area, Stewart said.

A Roxbury Street resident then called police to report that the man had jumped into his car, which he was warming up, and had stolen it, Stewart said.

The naked man drove the car to South Lincoln Street where he stopped the car, got out, and started running around again, Stewart said. When police officers found him, the man was impaired to some degree and made comments that it was probably due to methadone, Stewart said.

Stewart said he did not have information on why the man isn't facing any charges.
