The Keene Family YMCA has named its new, incoming CEO after a nationwide search for Hélène Mogridge’s successor.
Daniel Smith, the current CEO of the Cadillac Area YMCA in Michigan, will start in his new position May 28, according to a news release from the Keene Y Wednesday announcing his hiring.
Smith holds a bachelors of arts degree from Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y., and has 25 years of experience in nonprofit work, the release says. He has 16 years of CEO experience, eight of them at the Cadillac Area YMCA, according to the Keene Y.
“During our search for a new CEO, we looked at candidates from New Hampshire to Alaska,” Michael Hoefer, the Keene Y’s chief volunteer officer and president of the board of directors, said in the release. “With Dan’s experience in growing membership, program participation, and working with community organizations, we are convinced that the Keene Family YMCA, and indeed our entire community, will have a fantastic leader for years to come.”
Mogridge announced last year that she’d retire this spring after seven years at the organization’s helm.
Capping off a decades-long career in YMCAs, she came to the Keene Y in 2012, shortly after it moved from its longtime home on Roxbury Street to a new building on Summit Road.
Under her tenure, the organization experienced significant growth in membership and charitable fundraising, according to the Keene Y.
For his part, Smith said in Wednesday’s news release he “could not be more excited” to come aboard and, with staff and volunteers, build on the organization’s accomplishments.
“My entire family visited Keene and it was obvious to us what a special community it is,” he said. “We’re looking forward to making the Monadnock Region our home.”
