JAFFREY — The Mountain Patrol Rangers, the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team and the N.H. Fish and Game Department assisted an injured hiker on Mount Monadnock Monday evening, according to news release from the latter agency.

Ashley McCarthy, 19, of Ledyard, Conn., hurt her lower leg descending the White Dot Trail in Jaffrey with a group of fellow hikers from Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I., the release says. Rescue personnel determined she’d need to be carried down the mountain as she wasn’t able to walk.

N.H. Fish and Game was notified of McCarthy and her injury at about 6:45 p.m., and the rescue team carried her to the state park’s headquarters, according to the release, which says she was then taken by the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance to Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough.
