BRATTLEBORO — A local woman was charged with domestic assault Monday after police say she hit and bit a person with whom she is in a relationship.

Police were dispatched to Black Mountain Road Monday for a report of a dispute, according to a news release from the Brattleboro Police Department. Officers determined that Mirela Weis, 21, of Brattleboro had bitten and hit her partner several times and also pulled the person’s hair, the release says.

No significant injuries were reported, it notes.

According to the release, Weis destroyed the victim’s cell phone, preventing the person from calling the police and also grabbed the steering wheel of the vehicle she was riding in and shut it off while the vehicle was in motion.

Weis is charged with domestic assault, as well as reckless endangerment, interference with access to emergency services and unlawful mischief, according to the release.

She is set to appear today in the Windham Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Brattleboro, the release states. Brattleboro police were not reachable for more information this morning.
