Sean Beckett of the North Branch Nature Center will lead a program on the science of saw-whet owls on Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Beckett will discuss what scientists are learning about the natural history and ecology of this common but elusive species, and where owls banded in central Vermont have turned up around the country.

Researchers at the North Branch Nature Center in Montpelier, Vt., have captured and tagged more than 600 migrating saw-whet owls in the last seven years. These diminutive birds of prey migrate by the thousands through New England each year on their way to milder wintering ranges in the southern Appalachians.
