Nestled in Keene, New Hampshire is Archway Farm, where they make “local, sustainable, delicious pork…. [and are] … A small family farm raising happy, healthy pigs in a natural environment” as per the farm’s website.

I visited the farm on a cool, but sunny, day. Right away, I met Chris Connolly, and I had the delight of seeing the dairy cows getting milked. Two of the cows had days-old calves nearby.

Q: I am going on a two-week vacation this summer and don't have anyone available to water my vegetable garden. If there is no rain for two weeks will all my vegetables die? What can I do to prevent them from wilting and dying?

Raising chickens, both hens and roosters is a family project at the Ashley Naglie’s home in Hancock, New Hampshire. But what sets this family apart from your typical barnyard bird lovers is their dedication to rehabilitating rowdy roosters. Here at Moose Brook Farm roosters learn not to atta…

There’s a little town in southwest New Hampshire along the Vermont border and the Connecticut River that could easily be the setting for a child’s dream on a crisp night, just before dawn and the first snowfall. Hot cocoa, chocolate mice with ribbon tails, bouquets of the season’s last Black…

Pick a sunny summer afternoon with a slight breeze. Make sure you have a hankering for home-baked bread and local meats and cheeses; or maybe you’ve got to stock up on oils, ointments, candles and bug repellents — all made locally.

In each of our small, New Hampshire towns, there is at least one road that become so mucked up with mud in spring that everyone avoids it. But there’s one such road in Mason that travelers will take at any time of year, even abandoning their cars and walking the final half mile if need be. I…

Twenty-five years ago, a notice in a church bulletin caught the eye of New London resident Marc Clement. A child psychologist and Colby-Sawyer College professor at the time, Clement felt he had a lot to offer as a volunteer for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of New Hampshire.

Sometimes when a person dies, the only hint that they existed on this earth is the name etched on their headstone. That doesn’t sit right with Sandy Sliviak. So, as a volunteer with the Historical Society of Cheshire County, she has spent the past five years photographing and cataloging grav…

Swirling golden specks on black paper may not seem like the makings of earrings, a pin or barrette. However, for someone like Gail McWilliam Jellie, craftswoman in Claremont, New Hampshire, this is where her pieces begin: on paper.

Jaffrey is the kind of small town that could fall under the “blink-and-you-might-miss-it” heading. You roll in on a state highway, NH 124, that’s dressed as a backroad. Main Street keeps the typical New England green with gazebo on the left and that one stoplight at the intersection on the f…

Picture this: Your neighbor strolls down the street to the local hardware store to pick up a piece for an antique lamp. While he’s there, he has a chat with the owners about this and that and troubleshoots the wonky behavior of his lawnmower. It might sound like a scene straight out of a TV …

When it’s chocolate-making time at My Brigadeiro in Hanover, New Hampshire, the machine kicks on, and the smell of chocolate is everywhere.
