Fast Friends Greyhound Adoption Center in Swanzey will host its ninth annual road race and pet-friendly walk on Saturday, March 24, at its location on Route 10 in Swanzey. The community is invited to come snow or shine to help raise funds for the care of retired racing greyhounds waiting for forever homes.
At this year’s event, Fast Friends is celebrating the arrival of five greyhounds rescued from the dog meat market in China.
“We were blown away by how the community came together to support the effort to bring these dogs to the United States,” said Sharron Thomas, executive director of Fast Friends. “One of the Greyhounds needs some veterinary care, so the proceeds from the event will help us get her ready for adoption and her new life.”
Advance registration for the race and walk is $15 for adults and $10 for youth 18 and under. Registration on the day of the event is $20 for adults and $15 for youth.
The event opens at 8 a.m. The official start time for the walk is 9:15 a.m. and the race begins at 9:30 a.m.
The 4.5-mile Road Race winds around Yale Forest with views of Mount Monadnock. For those who are not running enthusiasts, a 2-mile Pet-Friendly Walk along a scenic rail trail happens at the same time and is a non-competitive, low-impact way to have fun and support the greyhounds.
