Cadet Andrew John Solomonides, son of Sergeant Major (Ret.) and Mrs. John Solomonides of Gilsum, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., on Saturday, May 25.

Solomonides graduated from Monadnock Regional High School in Swanzey in 2015. While at West Point, he concentrated his studies in nuclear engineering and regional studies of the Middle East with Persian language. Graduating 12th in his class of 1,048, Solomonides was an honor graduate and recipient of the Superintendent’s Award for Excellence with Distinguished Cadet Award. As a member of West Point’s NCAA Division I rifle team, he earned four varsity letters, was a four-time Scholastic All-American, and was named most valuable player in his senior year.

He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army within the infantry branch and will report to the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy, for his first assignment.
