John “Chick” Colony 3rd will lead a tour in the historic village of Harrisville, with a focus on the Colony family’s involvement with the Cheshire Mills. The tour will also include the new turbine that harnesses the water of Goose Brook for electricity.
The tour is scheduled for Saturday, June 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. Attendees are asked to meet in the center of the village in the parking area in front of Cheshire Mill, the large granite mill building on Main Street. The tour is free and does not require reservations.
If there is time and interest, the tour will also include Harrisville Designs.
Colony is the fifth generation to be involved in the family woolen manufacturing business. He was instrumental in establishing Historic Harrisville, a nonprofit formed to restore and protect the 19th and early 20th century mill buildings of Harrisville. He also founded Harrisville Designs.
The tour augments The Harrisville Connection exhibit at the Horatio Colony House Museum in Keene that runs through Aug. 18 and can be viewed for free Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
