This October, the Monadnock Food Co-op will join more than 65,000 cooperatives and credit unions across the United States in celebrating Co-op Month, observed nationally since 1964. This year’s theme, chosen by the National Cooperative Business Association, is Build Back for Impact, to promote how co-ops and their members are working together in the wake of the pandemic. Locally, Mayor George Hansel will proclaim October as Co-op Month in Keene during a City Council meeting on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m., according to a news release.
Monadnock Food Co-op plans to honor this month by: Highlighting cooperatively owned vendors at their store and online; Donating $500 to the Cooperative Development Foundation’s Cooperative Education Fund to support cooperative research and education programs; Offering a Round It Up Drive for the Monadnock Cooperative Community Fund; and honoring the 2021 Co-operator of the Year at its annual meeting on Oct. 16.
