Rainy day, big fish

Brian Jenisch of Swanzey caught this 41-inch northern pike while fishing at Spofford Lake Sunday. Jenisch estimated the fish weighed about 17 or 18 pounds. Even though this fish was large, it’s not a record for Jenisch; he says he caught a 43½-inch pike about 10 years ago. The largest pike ever caught in the state weighed more than 26 pounds and measured 44½ inches, according to N.H. Fish and Game. Even though Sunday was a gray, rainy day, Jenisch spent hours out on the lake, saying it was “better than sitting around the house.”
