It’s common knowledge that Monadnock Humane Society (MHS) provides the love and companionship of healthy animals to residents of our area through our adoption services. What isn’t as well-known is that MHS’ 1,000 active supporters have such an effect on the well-being of the 100,000-plus people who live in the Monadnock Region.

Our amazing donors make it possible for MHS to help manage stray animal populations, assist local law enforcement with cruelty and hoarding cases, and help persons who are rebuilding their lives due to domestic violence, homelessness, or substance addiction. Thanks to our community’s unwavering support of our mission, MHS is able to play a vital role in our neighbors’ health, happiness, and safety.

This work, in part, is made possible by the local individuals and businesses who recently made financial contributions, donated auction items or services, bought tickets, or bid on items at the 2019 Hair Ball — our major fundraising event of the year. With its country & western theme of “Happy Tails to You”, this sold-out event was underwritten by more than 100 business and individual sponsors. Thanks to an unprecedented outpouring of support, we broke all previous event records, raising a new high of $150,000. We are so grateful to everyone who made this success possible. Thank you for your investment in our work, which will change the lives of homeless animals and local residents for years to come.

I’d like to say a special thank-you to everyone who helped us plan and carry out the event: my Hair Ball co-chair Sharon Wratchford, Ryan Reed, Kathy Collinsworth, Lisa Beckwith, Bob Schaumann, Dan Dodge, Roma Dee Holmes, Christine Kruse, Mary Dziedzinski, Carol Laughner, Val Starbuck, Susan Peterson, and Peggy Bedore. Without the help of our volunteers and staff members, MHS literally could not serve the community as it does.

Finally, I’d like to remind our community that MHS is here to help — not just with adoptions, but also with animal behavior challenges, a pet food pantry for those who need help feeding their animals, affordable spay/neuter and rabies clinics, boarding, daycare, training, and so many other services. We deeply appreciate your compassion, loyalty and contributions. On your behalf, we will continue to work to address the needs of our community and help animals who need caring, forever homes.

Sincerely,

WESLEY H. WRATCHFORD
