A Sullivan man who retired to the region after a prestigious career in law was recently featured in The Wall Street Journal for receiving a lifetime achievement award.

John E. Hoffman Jr. was awarded a 2018 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and was selected as one of just nine recipients to be featured in an advertisement for the award in the Wall Street Journal earlier this month.

Hoffman was chosen for the award from among the thousands of biographies hosted by Marquis Who’s Who, which has published chronicles of professional biographies since 1898.

Hoffman retired in 1992 as a partner at the New York City-based law firm Shearman & Sterling LLP. His professional career was highlighted with a lead role in the Iran Hostage Crisis negotiations in the early 1980s. He and his wife, Jean, live at Seward Mountain Farm, nearly 800 acres of land protected by conservation easements and featuring a historic one-room schoolhouse.
