BRATTLEBORO — A Brattleboro Memorial Hospital volunteer received the 2017 Volunteer of the Year award from the N.H. Association of Hospital Auxiliaries.
Russ Stephens began volunteering at the hospital in 1993 after retiring as a vice president with the former Vermont National Bank, according to a news release from Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.
The association covers volunteer programs in New Hampshire and Vermont.
“Over two decades and 10,000 hours of service, Russ has listened to the fears and concerns of thousands of patients and he has become a great advocate for both patients and families. Russ has a huge heart, a kind smile, and an encouraging word for everyone he encounters,” said JoAnne Rogers, the hospital’s volunteer coordinator.
“His reassuring, welcoming face is often the first one our patients see when they come through our doors, and he is exceptionally dedicated to our vision of providing the best patient care experience for every patient, every time,” said hospital President and CEO Steven R. Gordon.
