Question: What advice do you have for an aspiring sports writer hoping to follow in your footsteps?
Answer: “It can be done, but you’re going to have to make a lot of personal sacrifices. There’s no guarantee in this media environment that it’s going to pan out the way you had dreamed. You need to be flexible. You need to be multi-talented.”
Question: How has your job changed over the past couple of decades?
Answer: “Not everything is geared toward the print edition anymore. Each year, the print edition becomes a lower priority. That doesn’t mean the print edition isn’t important, but we’re about breaking news and getting it online as soon as possible. We’re about video and about projects that allow for multimedia displays. At a World Cup, we’re trying to get a story on the website as soon as possible because there’s an international audience that wants to read about it.”
