Question: For someone whose only jumping-off point for a marching band might be the Nick Cannon movie, “Drumline,” how similar is what you do to the movie?

Answer: “It’s actually really similar. I was surprised the first time I ever watched it. I was like, ‘I don’t know how this movie is gonna be.’ But after I watched it, I was like, ‘That’s not too far off.’ Like the only thing is I’ve never experienced a college marching band, myself, so like I don’t know how some of that works, but it’s pretty similar.”

Question: What did it feel like to see your first Broadway musical (“Phantom of the Opera”)?

Answer: “It was an amazing feeling because I was excited for it, and nervous, because I didn’t know how it was going to be — I don’t know. And we got really good seats, and as soon as it started, my heart was racing, and I was like, ‘It’s happening! Everything is happening.’ ”
