Stevens claims sixth Kirby Cup with 4-0 win over Fall Mountain baseball

WALPOLE — Fall Mountain’s Brendan Heath and Chase Hussey of Stevens have spent the better part of a decade dueling on opposing pitchers mounds.

Monday was no different, through the first six innings at least, as Stevens took home the sixth annual Kirby Cup with a 4-0 win in front of a big crowd at the Hubbard Complex.

Area college teams hit the field in pursuit of NCAA, conference titles

The Keene State lacrosse teams learned first-round opponents for the upcoming NCAA tournament on Monday, while the Franklin Pierce baseball team learned pairings for the Northeast-10 tournament, which opens today.

KSC qualified for its sixth NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse tournament and second in a row by winning the Little East tournament title on Saturday at Owl Athletic Complex.

Dublin School skier earns Nordic All-State honors

Calvin Bates of the Dublin School has been named to the N.H. Nordic Coaches Association All-State team, the group announced last week.

No other area skier made the 27-person boys' and girls' team.

Monadnock thumps Fall Mountain in jayvee baseball action

Cam Bassingthwaite struck out five and allowed only four hits over six ininngs to help the Monadnock Regional javyee baseball team knock Fall Mountain Regional 10-1 last week.

The Huskies (4-0) also got plenty of offense, led by Chris Weeks, who had two hits, drove in a run and scored three times.

Monadnock girls down Kearsarge in D-III tennis

NORTH SUTTON — The Monadnock Regional girls' tennis team got wins in singles and doubles from Nos. 1 and 2 Emily Morenz and Maura Hart en route to a 5-4 victory over Sanboirn on Monday.

The Huskies (4-2) also got a win in singles from Sarah Cody, who then teamed with Faith Gamache for a win at No. 2 doubles.

Keene boys hold off Central in Division I tennis

David and Alan Idelkope picked up their first win of the season in doubles to clinch a tight 6-3 victory for Keene High over Manchester Central in Division I boys' tennis action at the Alumni Field courts.

The Blackbirds (4-2) captured the last two doubles matches to secure the victory.
