The Keene Swamp Bats’ season opener is just a few days away, its first home game set for Friday, but the first big step marking the start of a new campaign occurred Sunday when players arrived and met with their host families.

Keene High relay team posts season-best time

HAMPTON — They didn't quite finish in the points, but the Keene High 4x100 relay team members were excited nontheless with their showing at Friday's Division I Track Championships.

Shelby Fitzgerald, Emma Cagney, Meagan McLaughlin and Andrea Thisner posted a season-best time of 52.28 seconds for ninth place.

Keene High jayvees pick up pair of baseball wins

Ethan Andrus, Nate Taylor and Cullen Costa combined on a three-hit shutout and Hunter Kempf cracked two hits to lift the Keene High jayvee baseball team to a 3-0 victory over Alvirne on Sunday.

The win capped a 2-0-1 weekend for the Blackbirds, who tied Salem 6-6 and beat Bishop Guertin 8-1 Saturday.

Area golfer stumbles at NCAA Championships

Chelso Barrett made a triple-bogey on the second hole and limped in from there for a 6-over-78 in the rain-delayed third round Sunday at the NCAA Golf Championships in Bradenton, Fla.

The round, which determined the eight teams and top individuals to advance, was called at 6:48 p.m. by rain. Play continued this morning.

Westmoreland Vipers fall in AAU girls' hoops final

The Westmoreland Vipers middle school girls’ basketball team dropped a 39-29 decision to a rival Vermont Vipers AAU team in Sunday’s final of the Edge Tournament at Keene State.

Ellie Hayward scored 10 points and Alyson Lemnah added six in the championship game.
