Eleven area runners will be among thousands lining up in the brisk pre-dawn chill Monday to board buses headed for the Hopkinton, Mass., starting line for the 117th Boston Marathon.

Kenyans, unsurprisingly, are expected to take the top spots in the men’s and women’s races (according to a report highlighting the success of Kenyan runners in Friday’s Boston Globe, Kenyan men have taken 10 of the last 13 titles and won 20 Boston Marathons since 1988). But Granite State runners, including some from the Monadnock Region, have long left their own footprints on the world’s best-known marathon.
