When taxpayer dollars are spent studying how well a municipal department is run, the findings of that study should be public.

Fitzwilliam selectmen, however, disagree. Since the board dismissed police chief Wayne Kassotis, residents have demanded answers about the decision, coming just days after a disagreement between the chief and the board at March’s town meeting. The selectmen insist they acted in the town’s best interest, basing their decision on findings from a $10,000 police department study by Meredith-based consultant Municipal Resources Inc.
