Advocates for victims of domestic violence packed a Senate committee hearing room last week to stump for a new category of crime in New Hampshire. Many wore stickers reading “Joshua’s law” in honor of 9-year-old Joshua Savyon, who was killed by his father last summer and for whom the effort is named.

The bill being discussed, also supported by law enforcement officials, would create the category of domestic violence crimes, giving police, prosecutors and judges a little more specific information to work with in some cases.
