A couple of observations about my experience last Saturday on the rifle range at the Cheshire County Fish & Game Club. It was part of a workshop conducted by two Keene State College journalism professors to help reporters better understand guns, and I wrote a column about it Wednesday.

The emphasis on safety was resolute. It never wavered, from the minute we walked into the classroom in the morning to the final shots we fired in the afternoon. You could tell National Rifle Association-certified instructor Rick Fuller was a little nervous, saying he was condensing what’s normally a 10-hour course into 20 minutes.
