Keene hazmat team important part of response to Peterborough explosion

PETERBOROUGH — When an explosion shook N.H. Ball Bearings Monday, injuring 15 people, one of the first calls emergency responders made was to the Keene Fire Department’s hazmat team.

Investigators believe a nitric acid reaction caused the explosion. Authorities said Tuesday they believe the explosion likely originated in a room where acid is used to surface-treat ball bearings.
