Keene 5th-graders may still have a chance to practice their foreign language vocabulary this year, as the Keene Board of Education is considering an after-school world language club.
The board’s education committee approved starting the club in response to parents who criticized the board’s decision last year to remove a longtime foreign language program for 5th-graders from the budget. At the time, parents and teachers argued that younger students absorb foreign languages more easily and studying foreign language improves skills in other academic subjects.
