Kathryn R. (Ridley) Whitney, 90, a lifetime resident of Swanzey, died on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017. She passed peacefully in the comfort of her home with her large family near.

Kathryn was born the daughter of the late Pauline G. (Marsh) and Kenneth F. Ridley on Oct. 10, 1927, in Swanzey. She attended local schools and graduated from Keene High School, class of 1945.

On May 3, 1946, she exchanged vows with Richard E. Whitney in Swanzey. They were married with family and friends in attendance. Sadly, Richard passed on Feb. 18, 1982, after 35 years of marriage.

She worked at F.M. Labels as a machine operator for several years before retiring in 1992. Prior, she was also employed by the U.S. Census as a distributor. She was also employed for many years at the C.L. Lane Bucket Company.

Kathryn enjoyed bingo, reading, crossword puzzles, knitting and crocheting. Most of her time was resolved around being a good mom, wife and homemaker. Later in life she was very involved with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and as a great-great-grandmother.

Mrs. Whitney is survived by her children, Andrea Coulombe and her husband, James, of Brattleboro, Vt., Marthalou Dannevall of Aiken, S.C., Gene F. Whitney and his significant other, Kathleen Coleman, of Swanzey, Lori Rouisse of Swanzey, Richard L. Whitney and his significant other, Michelle Major, of Richmond and Wendy Chase of Swanzey; a sister, Dorothy Johnson of Keene; grandchildren, Lawrence Cavalliere Jr., Marie Guy, Wayne Rouisse, Amanda Major, Kendra Carter, Abbigayle Whitney and Cassidhe Whitney. In addition she leaves 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends. Kathryn is predeceased by her sister, Janet Jefts, who passed on June 28, 1998; and her grandchildren, Evan Whitney and Jeremy Wilson, both passed earlier.

In keeping with Kathryn’s wishes there are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. in the family lot at Mountain View Cemetery, Route 32 South, Swanzey. A gathering to celebrate the life of Kathryn will follow at the Swanzey Community House, 18 Old Richmond Road, Swanzey.

Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family would prefer donations be made in memory of Kathryn R. Whitney to: Meals on Wheels or Hospice and Community Services both at 312 Marlboro St., Keene, N.H., 03431.
