Alexander Mallis discovered a new way of getting his groceries — in the Dumpster. After diving for his dinner for a year and a half along with people from all walks of life, he realized this subculture would make fascinating food for thought on film.

Mallis, a Brooklyn, N.Y., resident who grew up in Keene and is a 2003 graduate of Keene High School, is asking people for help to release his documentary “Spoils: Extraordinary Harvest.”
